On November 21, 2014, Queen of the Valley Hospital was officially designated as a
Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (
www.aagl.com) and the Surgical Review Corporation (
www.src.com), two well respected organizations that have partnered up to promote excellence
in minimally invasive and robotic surgery worldwide.
The COEMIG program recognizes surgeons and facilities that demonstrate
an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, evidence-based
care. This program is structured to help minimally invasive gynecologic
and robotic surgeons continuously improve quality and patient safety via
a hospital-wide team approach. Patients benefit from an accredited center
of excellence in the following ways:
- Decreased stay in hospital ("same day" or "overnight")
- Less pain and blood loss from surgery
- Faster recovery time, back to normal life sooner
-
Recovery in the "Minimally Invasive Surgery Recovery Unit" on the 5
th floor of Queen of the Valley
- On campus education through lively interactive community lecture events
led by surgeons
- Procedures performed by board-certified, high volume gynecologic surgeons
- Collection of data to contribute to an international database for best practices
The October 30, 2014 all-day facility on-site visit by a site inspector
of the SRC represented the culmination of an intensive year-long collaborative
effort that included gynecologic surgeons, nurses, senior hospital administration
and operating room personnel.
