BALANCE AND VESTIBULAR SERVICES
Who Can Benefit
Many neurological and muscular diseases lead to a loss of balance and neuromuscular control. Physical therapists at Citrus Valley Centers for Rehabilitation Services are trained in the assessment and management of a range of balance and vestibular diseases. Patients who can benefit from therapy to improve balance and strength and reduce the risk of falls and injury include:
- Older adults at risk for falls
- Vertigo sufferers
- Individuals living with Meniere’s or Parkinson’s Diseases
- Those who have experienced a CVA/stroke
- Individuals experiencing chronic lower extremity muscle weakness
How We Can Help
Specialized services to alleviate symptoms and improve mobility and independence include a comprehensive Fall Risk Assessment using the Biodex Balance System, the Berg Balance Scale and other tests; state-of-the-art conditioning and treatment programs, and a complete Fall Prevention Education Program. Elements of treatment are incorporated into a home exercise program, which the patient is expected to perform on a consistent basis.
Balance and Vestibular Services
In most cases, patients can look forward to significant improvement if the therapy exercises are correctly and faithfully performed. Balance will be improved, and symptoms of dizziness, vertigo and nausea will decrease or disappear. Many times, vestibular retraining techniques are so successful that no other treatment is required.
