Besides providing critical emergency services around the clock, the emergency room at Inter-Community Hospital in Covina is a receiving center specifically for heart attack patients.

This ER has been designated by Los Angeles County as a ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center (SRC). Inter-Community is the only hospital in the East San Gabriel Valley with this designation.

When a heart attack strikes, every second counts. The risk of permanent damage increases the longer the artery remains blocked. The patients who are now immediately transported to Inter-Community will arrive at a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory more quickly than they would have before. The designation makes it possible for medical professionals to achieve the goal of opening a blocked heart artery within 90 minutes of when paramedics perform the first electrocardiogram (EKG) in the field.

Elevating Your Hospital:
New ED Construction Project Completed at
Inter-Community

The newly constructed Emergency Department (ED) at Inter-Community Hospital in Covina opened in December 2016.

The new ED cost more than $10 million dollars to construct and just under three years to complete. It features 21 beds, nearly doubling its previous size. The welcoming entrance and front lobby are directly off of College and 3rd streets in downtown Covina. And, the patient treatment stations offer a spacious and comforting environment while offering the latest technology that will continue to enable the ICH medical team to provide advanced emergent care. In fact, the ED features direct access to the operating rooms and Citrus Valley Heart Center services for immediate interventions.

The emergency department will also continue to provide Rapid Medical Evaluation (RME) exams, ensuring patients are seen and evaluated quickly by medical professionals.

Another feature of emergency services at all CVHP hospitals, including Queen of the Valley in West Covina and Foothill Presbyterian in Glendora is online emergency room appointment scheduling for non-life threatening medical emergencies. The InQuicker service provides the added comfort of waiting for your emergency room visit from the comfort of your home.
