Stroke Rehabilitation Program

Queen of the Valley Hospital is a Primary Stroke Center certified by the Joint Commission. Our stroke patients are the largest population we serve on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit. We are proud to provide high level care to our stroke patients as they progress through the various stages of recovery. Our Stroke Program is just one of many treatments options offered at Citrus Valley Health Partners.

Our Acute Rehabilitation Unit Stroke Program Provides:

  • Nurses and Therapists with specialized training in Rehabilitation – Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRN) on staff
  • Specialized equipment and techniques to meet the needs of stroke patients – NDT trained therapists
  • Family and caregiver education and community resources
  • Support group services – Monthly On-site Support Group
  • Medical Director and Physicians with experience in caring for stroke patients – Physiatrist

Our intensive rehabilitation program helps patients who are recovering from a stroke to reach their highest level of functional independence and safety and resume active roles within their families and communities.

Specialized rehabilitation equipment, combined with the specialized expertise of our team, we offers patients the best route to recovery and reaching their own goals.

Goals of Stroke Reabilitation Include:

Our Acute Rehabilitation Unit Team works together to plan a unique rehabilitation program for each patient. The Team helps patients attain their highest level of function and independence. By:

  • Assessing the patient’s ability to function including self-care, activities of daily living, transfers, mobility, speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
  • Involving the patient and his/her family in developing rehabilitation goals and actively participating in discharge planning
  • Increasing the patient’s overall strength, function and quality of life
  • Teaching various techniques to compensate for physical, cognitive and communicative deficits
  • Supporting the patient and family/caregivers as they learn to cope with their physical and cognitive limitations
  • Determining home equipment needs
  • Arranging for further rehabilitation services and appointments as needed
  • Providing Community Resources as needed
