Dr. David R. Metcalf, a medical physicist, oversees CVMC’s Radiation program from a physics standpoint, confirming that the dose calculations and the patients’ treatment plans are aligned with the machine output. He also does the monthly output checks on the Linear Accelerator, checking on beam symmetry and beam flatness, as well as the accuracy of optical distance indicators.

Dr. Metcalf, who is based out of Medical Physics Services, Inc. of Westlake Village, has nearly 35 years’ experience. He also has worked at the Western Tumor Medical Group, Inc. and Century City Hospital.

Dr. Metcalf is a diplomate on the American Board of Radiology — Radiological Physics and is certified by the state of California to perform X-ray therapy calibration and protection surveys.

Dr. Metcalf graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor of science in physics. He earned his master’s degree and his Ph.D. from UCLA, both in medical physics.
