Citrus Valley Health Partners Acquires da Vinci Si HD System for Surgical Procedures
Citrus Valley Health Partners is pleased to announce that it is the first full-service hospital system in the San Gabriel Valley to offer surgeries using Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci Si HD system, which is the newest, most advanced version of this technology.
The da Vinci Si HD Surgical System integrates three-dimensional, high-definition endoscopy (surgery performed through small holes in the body) and state-of-the-art robotic technology to virtually extend the surgeon’s eyes and hands into the surgical field. The unparalleled 3D HD visualization provides the surgeon with a panoramic 16:9 aspect ratio, resulting in the highest possible resolution and viewing area.
"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to be the first full-service hospital system in the region to operate with the da Vinci Si model,” said CVHP President & CEO Robert H. Curry. “We are only starting to realize the full potential of this new technology. Right now we are using it for hysterectomies and prostatectomies, and it has the possibility for countless other applications.”
The da Vinci Si offers breakthrough technology, including instruments that allow its robotic wrists to rotate a full 360 degrees, enhancing the physician’s skill and ease of movement. Additionally, instead of using the physician’s two arms, the da Vinci robot utilizes four arms that offer unprecedented precision. The da Vinci Si also features dual-console capability, which gives surgeons the opportunity to work together during a procedure or can serve as an invaluable teaching tool.
Citrus Valley Health Partners acquired the da Vinci Si in September and Dr. Bill Tang, a gynecologist, and Dr. Sung Choe, a urologist, performed the first two surgeries.
For patients, surgeries performed with the da Vinci Si mean less pain, smaller scars and a quicker recovery time.
“My patient was very, very happy with the surgery because she did not need any pain medication afterward and she was able to get back to her daily activities right away,” Tang said.
Citrus Valley Health Partners is comprised of Citrus Valley Medical Center – Inter-Community Campus in Covina, Citrus Valley Medical Center – Queen of the Valley Campus in West Covina, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora and Citrus Valley Hospice in West Covina.
